Interstate & long-distance

Interstate and long-distance medical transportation, planned in advance.

Some trips do not fit inside one region. When a passenger needs care in another state — a specialist appointment, a hospital discharge to family, a transfer between facilities — Nexus Medical Transit plans the ride end to end: door-through-door support, the right vehicle and crew for the distance, and a pickup timed to the appointment. Day-to-day service runs locally in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia; interstate trips cover the rest of the 48 contiguous states.

Nexus provides planned, non-emergency transportation. If this is an emergency, call 911.

Local region, and everywhere beyond it

Nexus coverage has two tiers:

  • Local region: Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia — regular day-to-day service for appointments, treatment, and discharge trips.
  • Interstate & long-distance: the other 46 contiguous states, for inter-state trips planned in advance — a pickup in the local region to a hospital in another state, or a trip that starts farther out.
  • Not served: Alaska, Hawaii, and anywhere outside the United States.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer transportation to other states?

Yes. Day-to-day service runs in our local region — Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia. For trips that cross state lines or run long, Nexus also provides interstate and long-distance transportation to the other 46 contiguous states, scheduled in advance so the vehicle, crew, and timing are matched to the trip.

How far in advance should an interstate trip be booked?

As early as you can. Long-distance trips are planned trips: pickup and destination, appointment timing, and mobility or equipment needs are set up front so the right vehicle and crew are matched to the trip. Call (888) 639-5766 or book online and we will confirm what we can schedule.

What kinds of trips can go long-distance?

Common long-distance trips include appointments at hospitals and specialists in other states, hospital discharge rides to family in another state, interfacility transfers, and trips that start and end outside the local region entirely. If the care your passenger needs is in another state, we can plan the ride around it.

Which ride types are available for interstate trips?

The same ride types we coordinate locally — ambulatory, wheelchair, stretcher, bariatric, and ambulance transportation (BLS/ALS) — matched to the passenger and the trip. Tell us the mobility and equipment needs when you book so the right vehicle and crew are assigned.

Can an interstate trip leave early in the morning?

Yes. Pickups are scheduled in advance around appointment and check-in times, including early-morning departures for early procedures and appointments. Share the check-in time when you book and the pickup is timed back from it.

Do you serve Alaska, Hawaii, or other countries?

No. Interstate service covers the 48 contiguous United States. Alaska, Hawaii, and anywhere outside the United States are out of area — for a trip entirely outside the contiguous states, a medical transport provider local to that area is the right call.

How much does a long-distance trip cost?

Price depends on the trip itself — distance, ride type, required personnel and equipment, and timing — so there is no set fare. Book online at https://mynexusride.com for an estimate for your specific trip, or call (888) 639-5766 and the team will quote it with your trip details.
